Have a lovely day :-)
Five Senses Friday
smell: fresh basil in my new herb garden; neighbors grilling out; freshly mowed grass
taste: Thai take-out for my birthday; chocolate cake; radishes from our garden; roasted asparagus
sight: lilies finally in full bloom; a first smile from my baby; wilted flowers from the heat; a cardinal
sound: cute new baby sounds; neighbor playing electric guitar outside (ugh!); a snoring cat; old Michael Jackson songs
touch: opening a package from Etsy; soft baby skin; dirt from planting herbs; wiping sweat off my forehead- it's hot outside!
We finally have vegetables ready to pick in our garden. So far we have romaine and red leaf lettuce, chives and radishes. I made a Caesar salad with the romaine the other night and it was tasty. Love having a garden. We also have bok choy, but it doesn't look like the photos I've seen of bok choy. I don't like mystery vegetables!
One month ago we welcomed our little angel into this world. Wow, it feels like forever since I was pregnant. About 2 am the night before, I woke up and felt contractions and realized they were happening regularly. I thought that I would be really nervous when things would start, but I was amazed at how calm I was. After a couple hours of timing contractions and getting things packed I called the hospital. They suggested I wait a little bit longer, so we arrived at the hospital at 6:30 am. Long story short, we couldn't stay because I wasn't far enough along and "looked too calm and comfortable." We left and a bit later I went to my OB appointment which was already scheduled. My contractions were getting pretty painful. My doctor said I progressed to 4 cm and should go back to the hospital. I had been worried for so long about all the little things like an IV, urinary catheter, episiotomy, etc. They all really were not that bad. The epidural was fine too- I waited a while after they offered it to me to get it. Dumb idea, get it as soon as it's offered! Before I knew it, they told me I was ready to push. I couldn't believe it. I was sitting there watching Oprah and was somewhat relaxed from the epidural and I didn't feel ready at all. After a few hours of pushing and the help of a vacuum extractor, she was here! Overall it wasn't at all as scary as I thought it would be. My husband did such a great job, which made all the difference. I kind of feel empowered now having given birth. It was something I was always a little afraid of, but I did it and it was so worth it!
